3 Reasons I hate Hotmail.

Alright, enough is enough, I am officially sick of Hotmail and its time that somebody said something about the greedy behavior Microsoft is exhibiting. Here is my situation: I use a Linux operating system (Kubuntu) and I want to use a mail reader like Outlook Express to read my Hotmail messages. This brings me to my first beef with Hotmail.

  1. Hotmail does not allow all users to use POP3 and STMP to set up software like outlook express. Only "Premium" users get this special privilege after they pay 19.99 a year. So needless to say that was out of the question because other places offer this service for free. Onto my second beef with hotmail.

  2. So I'm not a premium member, time to look for a different way to get this working. It turns out there is a script that will login to hotmail and automatically do what I need. To bad hotmail changes their login code every few months to stop the script from working, so it constantly needs to be upgraded. Well maybe there is a better solution!

  3. GMAIL!

Wow! Gmail allows all users to use POP3 and STMP for free. I have set up and tested it with my email client and everything works great!!! All I have to do now is forward my mail from Hotmail to my Gmail account and everything will be great!

I HATE YOU HOTMAIL! Now I cant forward messages to gmail, although I know for a fact that you use to be able to. They purposely block all major email senders...

Well you know what Hotmail, Screw you to! I am sick of trying to make things work between us, and I am not paying you money when other email services give me what I want for free. It's time to break up with Hotmail after 6 long years. I have a feeling I wont be the only one.

The only reason that I still have my hotmail account around is for msn purposes. I'd rather not go through the hassle of having all of my friends re-add a new email address. I do agree though, the hotmail email service does blow.

You can use your Gmail account for MSN and just import all your contacts.

I got hotmail as my first e-mail address, sent it to a cousin, and he immediately said "Get Gmail, here's an invitation." (Back in the days when you needed one) So I got Gmail immediately, but my mom had hotmail and I already hated it. I converted her (with much difficulty) and she LOVES Gmail now. I actually got a new MSN account with my Gmail address just so I could sever all ties with hotmail. Also, if you can't get hotmail to forward to Gmail, check out Gmail's mail retrieval system. Who knows, maybe it'll work with hotmail? (I've not tried)
